Description
Manor Cottage is a large detached cottage located on the south side of School Lane in Maiseyhampton. Originally listed as No. 7, The Stores, this building dates from the late 17th century and has been enlarged at the rear in two stages, likely during the early 18th century and late 20th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with alternating flush quoins and features a stone slate roof with stone end stacks.
The cottage has an L-shaped range of varying heights, primarily two storeys tall. The roadside frontage includes a coped gable on the right with kneelers at different heights and the remains of a finial. There is a blocked single light window with a straight dripmould at the top of the gable, a two-light stone mullion window with a square hoodmould on the first floor, and a three-light window on the ground floor. To the left on the first floor, there is another two-light stone mullion window, while below it, a three-light window with a square hoodmould and a single light in the centre with a straight dripmould can be found.
At the rear, there is an original blocked doorway with quoins, and mostly two-light casements with timber lintels. The middle range facing into the angle has all two-light stone mullions with square hoodmoulds, and a small gabled dormer from the 20th century features two-light stone mullions without hoodmoulds.
