Description

The Field Barn and open-fronted cart shed, dated 'A.D. 1769' on the right-hand jamb of the east-facing porch, is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone with finely dressed quoins. The barn features a stone slate roof, while the cart-shed has a corrugated asbestos roof. The barn has a cruciform plan with an 'L'-shaped cart-shed at the north-east corner. There is a single-storey extension and pigsties at the south gable end of the barn, which are not of special interest.

On the east side, there is a projecting gabled porch that is off-centre to the left, with a similar porch opposite, both having plank doors. A round-headed ventilation slit with a dressed stone surround is located in the gable of the east-facing porch. There is a single-width doorway to the left-hand return of the same porch, a blocked pitching window to the right of the projecting porch on the opposite side, and a partially blocked pitching window in the south gable end. Square ventilation holes are present in the side walls and the south gable end.

Inside, the barn has five bays with roof trusses and rafters that were replaced in the late 19th century with king post trusses featuring iron bolt fastenings. The open-fronted cart-shed consists of a short range of two open-fronted bays and a longer range of ten open-fronted bays, divided by square stone-built piers.
