Description

This barn and open-fronted cartshed, located approximately 40 meters south of Manor Farmhouse, was likely constructed around the same time as the farmhouse in the late 17th to early 18th century. It is built from coursed squared and dressed limestone with large quoins and features a stone slate roof. The barn is situated at the southern end of the structure and has a rectangular plan, with a projecting porch on the east side flanked by two lean-tos that were originally open-sided, divided by single stone monoliths at the front. The cartshed is located at the north gable end.

The barn has double plank doors leading to the porch, with a pitching window above it. There is a global insurance plaque on the lintel of the pitching window. On the wall opposite the porch, there is a low segmental-headed double doorway with a plank door. The side walls of the barn feature tall ventilation slits, and there is a large circular ventilation hole at the south gable end, surrounded by square dressed stone, with a ventilation slit above. Below the eaves on the west side, there are two courses of pigeon holes.

Inside, the barn has five bays with 20th-century roof trusses that include raking struts, and there is a brick threshing floor. The open-fronted cartshed has five bays supported by single cylindrical stone columns with imposts that hold up a continuous timber lintel. The positioning of the barn allows it, along with the stable block, to frame the facade of Manor Farmhouse when viewed from the south.
