Description
Brook Hay Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the 17th century, with an almost contemporary extension. It is constructed of limestone rubble and has a stone slate roof with a limestone rubble stack. The main body of the cottage has a rectangular single-unit plan, with the extension located at the north gable end. There is a 20th-century lean-to porch on the south front, which is not of special interest. The cottage is one and a half storeys high.
On the entrance front, which faces northwest, there is a large gable for the main body and a smaller gable for the extension. The ground floor features a 20th-century three-light casement window with horizontal glazing bars, and there is a matching three-light casement above in the gable. The smaller gable has a small two-light casement. Below the lean-to porch is a 20th-century plank door. The south-facing gable includes 19th-century three-light casements with horizontal glazing bars. The southeast front, which faces the road, has one large and one small gable, with single-light, two-light, and three-light wooden casements. The former gable-end stack of the main body has been incorporated into the extension. The interior has not been inspected.
