Description

Baunton Mill is a former mill and miller's house, dating from the mid-to-late 18th century, with a mill conversion undertaken around 1938 and subsequent extensions around the same time. The building is constructed of coursed, squared, and roughly dressed limestone, with stone slate and artificial stone slate roofing, and artificial stone stacks.

The house comprises a rectangular 18th-century range, with a converted mill building attached to the east gable end. A small extension runs parallel to the main body, linked to the south-east corner at first-floor level; another extension is set at right angles to the 18th-century range at the rear left. The house and converted mill have two storeys and an attic. The 18th-century range and the converted mill each feature a five-window facade. The 18th-century range has twelve-pane sashes with plain architraves and sills, with the first-floor sills forming a continuous band. The converted mill has single, two, and three-light early 20th-century stone-mullioned casements with leaded panes and hoodmoulds (some with stops). The attic areas have two slate-hung dormers and a large Cotswold dormer with a four-light stone-mullioned casement. A 20th-century plank door, with fillets, is positioned off-centre to the right, set within a moulded, dressed stone surround, and is sheltered by a gabled stone-built porch with a moulded Tudor-arched entrance. Similar window detailing is found on the south-east corner extension. A Cotswold-style extension is located at the rear. Gable-end and axial stacks are present. The extension to the south-east corner has a half-hipped roof. The interior was not inspected.
