Description

The Old School House is a former school and school house, dated and initialled 'J. M. 1849' on a shield located on the porch gable of the school room. It is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof that features ashlar and artificial stone stacks. The building has an 'L'-shaped plan, with a single-storey flat-roofed extension on the east that is not of special interest. The two-storey school house is connected at right angles to a single-storey school room.

On the entrance front, the gable of the school house projects forward to the right, featuring a projecting stone-built gabled porch that is off-centre to the left. There is a similar porch for the school room. All windows are 2-light stone-mullioned casements with diamond leaded panes. The Tudor-arched doorway to the porch of the school house is now blocked, with a 2-light casement inserted into the blocking. Above the door is a blank shield. The school room porch has double plank doors, each with a single glass pane. The porches feature stepped coping, roll-cross saddles, and triangular kneelers on their gables, as well as on the south-facing gable of the school house. The building has gable-end and lateral stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
