Description

DRIFFIELD A417 SP 00 SE (north side) 4/18 Harnhill Mill and attached house GV II Mill on Ampney Brook and attached house. Late C18/early C19. Coursed rubble stone with quoins, mostly stone slate roof, some slate, scattered brick stacks. House of 2 storeys and attic with 3-storey projecting gable to left. Main part of house has three 12-pane sashes on first floor, 2 on ground floor with central projectng gabled stone porch; mill directly behind, of 3 storeys. Three window/door openings on each floor of section immediately behind house, all with cambered flush stone lintels with keystones. Iron 16-pane fixed lights flanking central door with hatch on first floor, blind window above and projecting corrugated iron hauling gantry above. Wing behind projects forward as wide gable with one 9-pane light on each floor and arch for mill waters below. Interior supported on cast iron columns. Main part of interior not accessible but formerly reputed to have much mill machinery remaining in situ. Large iron wheel still on wide projecting gable at first floor level.
