Description

Ford Farmhouse is a large farmhouse, originally dating to the late 17th and early 18th centuries, with significant additions made in the early 19th century and in 1945. The structure is primarily built of coursed rubble stone, with the central section being constructed of dressed stone on a plinth. It has a stone slate roof, a brick ridge stack on a stone base to the right-hand range, smaller stone end stacks to the central range, and a large external stone stack to the left-hand wing, built in 1945. The building is arranged in a large ‘L’ shape.

The farmhouse is mostly two storeys high with an attic in the central section. The oldest section is located at the round angle of the ‘L’, with an attached agricultural building to the south. There are two small gabled dormers with paired casement windows in the eaves. The ground floor windows are 2- and 3-light casements, with a 20th-century corner porch, two recessed plank doors, and casements at the right-hand end. The central section features a small gable on the right with a 2-light stone mullion window, and a hipped dormer to the left. Two 12-pane sashes are set within flush stone surrounds on the first floor. The left-hand side of the ground floor has a lengthened wood mullion and transom window, and a round-headed doorway on the right, featuring imposts, a recessed 6-panel door, and a radial fanlight. The wing built in 1945 has 4- and 2-light stone mullion windows on the first floor, and two full-length metal casement windows with a square hoodmould.
