Description

This is a detached cottage situated in Ampney Crucis village, with its gable end facing the street. Originally dating from the late 17th century, it was enlarged and refaced in the late 19th century. The front of the cottage is constructed of roughly-shaped rubble stone with quoins, while the gable end is of rubble stone. It has a roof of stone slates and a brick stack on the right-hand side. The cottage comprises a single range of two storeys with an added single-storey wing to the south. The west front has two windows, with paired 19th-century six-pane casements beneath timber lintels. On the ground floor, a three-light stone mullion with ovolo mouldings and leaded casements is located on the right side, and a 19th-century four-panel door is set in a chamfered stone surround to the left. A former doorway in the wing to the right has been replaced with a paired casement and timber lintel. The original, lower roofline is visible in the gable end wall of the front elevation.
