Description

Old Gore Barn is a barn and fold yard dating from the late 18th century to the mid-19th century. The barn is constructed of thinly-bedded random limestone with dressed stone quoins and features a stone slate roof. The fold yard is made of coursed squared and dressed limestone with a red tile roof, and it originally had a corrugated iron roof over the yard.

The barn has a rectangular plan with a projecting porch on the south side and lean-tos on either side of the porch. The south elevation of the barn features a central gabled porch flanked by single-storey lean-tos, each with single-width doorways. The north elevation has central double plank doors with single ventilation slits on either side, and a single pitching window above each ventilation slit, along with additional ventilation slits in the gable ends.

The fold yard includes an open-fronted shelter shed on three sides, supported by cast iron uprights that divide each bay. A cast iron railing and gateway separate the yard into two parts, and there is a stone wall on the west side that formerly had two gateways. At the rear of the shelter sheds, there is a feeding passage and a moulded brick feeding trough. The fold yard has a hipped roof. Inside the barn, there are five bays featuring collar and tie beam trusses and double purlins.
