Description

The Old House is a house dating from the early to mid-17th century, with extensions added in the late 17th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of limestone rubble with dressed stone quoins, and features ashlar and brick stacks. The main body of the house is rectangular, with a baffle entry, and is adjoined to the right gable end by a late 17th century extension set at a slight angle, with a further 19th century extension to the rear. The building has a twin-gabled (south-facing) entrance front for the main body, and the extension has a matching gable, with a further three matching gables to the rear.

The south elevation has two 4-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with king mullions and stopped hoods to the ground floor; above these are three 3-light stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods, flanking a single-light casement with a stopped hood above a gabled stone-built porch containing an early plank door with strap hinges and a moulded dressed stone surround. A 2-light stone-mullioned casement with stopped hoods is found in each gable. The extension has a three-light flat-chamfered stone-mullioned casement to the ground and first floors, a similar 2-light casement to the attic, and a single-light casement with a wide double-chamfered dressed stone surround to the gable end. A 20th century gabled porch stands to the rear of the 19th century extension. The stacks have chamfered cappings and skirtings. The right gable end has stepped coping.

Inside, the early to mid-17th century range contains a spine beam with moulded stops, and an inglenook fireplace.
