Description
This is a chest tomb from the late 18th century, located about 6 meters northeast of the path crossing in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary in Tetbury. It is made of limestone and features a flat top with a cyma recta moulded plinth on a broken base, along with cyma recta moulded capping. The tomb has heavy lyre ends, with a cherub holding a book on the west side and a cherub head on the returns. To the east, there is a cartouche with a cherub head and wings, accompanied by foliage returns. The north panel displays a large oval with drapery festoons, although the inscription is now obliterated. The south panel has flanking relief strips and a plain central inscription panel, where the name "Joseph M-----es" is just visible.
