Description
The stable block, located 20 yards northeast of Bowl Farmhouse, dates from the 17th century and was remodeled in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings. The roof is a hipped imitation Cotswold stone style, featuring three small gabled ventilators. The building is single-storey and has a continuous drip over the lintels. It consists of roughly 8 or 9 irregular bays.
There are four cross mullion windows, and a roughly central carriageway with an elliptical head. To the left of center, there are two square-headed doorways; one has a two-light transom, while the other has side-lights, a wooden lintel, and a four-light transom. To the right, there is a large entry with a concrete lintel. At the rear, there is a gabled loft entry and a walled-in 17th-century chamfered wooden lintel. This stable block is associated with the lost manor house of Sir Robert Atkyns, a Gloucestershire historian.
