Description

BEAMINSTER NORTH STREET, ST 4701/4801 (NORTH SIDE) 7/111 Stable-Block 25 metres east of the Manor House GV II*

Stable-Block. c. 1670. Lias ashlar stone walls. Tile and stone slate roof. T-shaped plan, with a range along lane, possibly coachman's loding and stables at right-angles. One full storey. c. 4 windows, cross- transom mullions (2-light) with ovolo-moulds surrounded by classical eaved architraves, pulvinated frieze and steep plain pediments. Gap between frieze and pediment. Door at centre has similar architectual details. Carriage-entrance, right of the door. Clock-face, corbelled out with a round head and set in a roundel. Clock with J. N. Moore and Son, London, 14419. Chimney stack on rear eaves. Interior of stable mainly pulled out. The Stable-Block is comparable to that at Mapperton House.
