Description
The former stable block, located in the yard at the back of The Priory, is likely part of a medieval manor house that once stood on this site. The building primarily dates from 1839, as indicated by the datestone above the central arch, but it also features two early medieval blocked trefoil arched windows and a blocked pointed archway on the south wall. Constructed of rubble stone with coursed stonework facing the yard, it has a Cotswold stone slate roof. The stable block is a single range with small additions to both the east and west, standing two storeys tall.
It has three windows, including a central two-light trefoil head stone mullion window, flanked by two-light straight head stone mullion casements, all with square hoodmoulds. The ground floor features two three-light stone mullion casements on either side of a large central four-centred chamfered carriage arch, which has a carved head above and double wooden doors. To the left, there is a single arched door with a carved head and a single light. The south wall is notable for a large stepped stack located centrally on the exterior.
