Description

This building is a barn and adjoining animal shelter located to the north-west of Chavenage Manor Farmhouse, likely dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with a stone slate roof on the front and concrete tiles on the rear, which has a half hipped design.

The south side features a large central hipped cart entry with a segmental stone arch above a timber lintel, which supports split double timber doors and has flush quoins. Inside the entry, there is a segmental arch on the wall plane. On either side of the entry, there are lean-to former animal shelters with three bays each, supported by cylindrical rubble stone piers; the bays are partially or completely filled in.

On the north side, there is a similar flush cart entry with a segmental arch, although one door is missing. Flanking this entry are segmental-headed shuttered pitch holes. The barn has seven bays in total, and its roof structure was renewed in the 20th century. Additionally, there is a five-bay animal shelter on the north-east side that is open on the south, with the end bay partly filled in and similar piers dividing the bays.
