Description
Number 2 College Lawn is a villa built between 1850 and 1860, now serving as an education centre. The building features stucco over brick with a hipped roof covered in artificial slate and a stucco stack at the right end of the front. An iron balcony adorns the exterior. The villa has a double depth plan with a rear, right stair hall.
It stands two storeys high with a basement and has four first-floor windows, along with a single-storey entrance porch to the right. The ground floor showcases stucco detailing, including quoins at the corners and horizontal rustication topped with a continuous tooled cornice and frieze (the porch has the frieze above the cornice). There is a continuous tooled sill band on the first floor, with a crowning frieze, cornice, and modillion eaves.
The windows throughout have tooled architraves; those on the ground floor feature ears and keystones, while the first-floor windows have cornices supported by acanthus brackets. The entrance boasts a tooled round arch with a keystone set on imposts. The ground floor windows are 2/2 sashes, taller than the 6/6 sashes found in the basement.
The entrance is accessed by a flight of renewed roll-edged steps flanked by coped low walls, leading to a set-back four-panel door with sidelights and a divided overlight between pilaster strips.
Inside, the villa retains original features such as embellished cornices with a ceiling frieze. The staircase has a rod on onion balusters and a handrail with a lion's paw foot, and some windows have shutters, although the interior was not fully inspected.
A continuous ground-floor balcony features an ornate balustrade. The design of this villa is similar to that of Nos 1 and 5 College Lawn.
