House, now 2 shops. c1830-50 with later additions and alterations, including c1900 ground-floor shop front. Stucco over brick with concealed roof and iron balustrade. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 3 first-floor windows. Stucco detailing includes tooled architraves to windows; second-floor sills on feet. First floor has outer 1/1 sashes between tripartite window with 1/1 sashes. Second floor has four 1/1 sashes. All sashes are horned; plain reveals. Crowning cornice and low, coped parapet. Ground floor: continuous frontage incorporates entrance to passage at left, a plank door, then 2 plate-glass windows on brick plinths, canted in to off-centre left entrances with glazed doors and lower raised and fielded panel; pilasters to ends and slender columnette-mullions, with stained glass frieze over windows in basket-arched surround; continuous frieze and blind box. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: continuous ornate balustrade surmounts ground floor. Forms a group with Nos 55 and 57, The Restoration Inn (qv).
