Description
No. 46 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop with a flat above. It was built around 1820 to 1850 and has undergone later additions and alterations, including a ground-floor shop front from the mid to late 19th century. The building is constructed of stucco over brick and has a concealed roof.
It stands four storeys tall and features three first-floor windows. The first and second floors have 6/6 sash windows, while the third floor has 3/3 sash windows, all set in plain reveals with sills. The ground-floor shop front includes plate-glass windows with fluted architraves and a central entrance featuring a 20th-century glazed door with an overlight. There is an additional entrance on the right with a part-glazed door and overlight. The rear of the building retains 6/6 sash windows.
Inside, the property preserves original joinery and plasterwork. It is part of a well-preserved terrace of 19th-century shops, alongside Nos. 38, 40, 42, and 44, which contributes to the visual character of the area, particularly as it relates to the listed buildings on London Road, one of the main routes into Cheltenham.
