Description
72 and 74 West Gate is a house that has been converted into two shops. It dates from the late 17th century and was refronted in the late 19th century, with further restoration and alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is finished in stucco and features a steeply pitched roof covered with renewed pantiles, along with a renewed central brick ridge stack. It has two storeys plus attics and a two-window range of two-light glazing bar sliding sashes. Above these are two raking dormers, each with two-light glazing bar casements. On the ground floor, to the left, there is a 20th-century glazed door flanked on the right by a small single-pane shop window. To the right of this is a late 19th-century wooden shop front with brackets supporting the fascia, a single-pane window, and a glazed door with an overlight. Further to the right, there is an entryway with a close boarded door.
