Description
This cottage, located approximately 30 metres south-west of Court Barton Farmhouse, may have originally been two separate homes. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century and features slate rubble walls, some of which are rendered, and a gable-ended corrugated iron roof. There is a central axial slate rubble stack with a drip course. The original layout consisted of two principal rooms, each heated by the central stack, with a very small unheated room on the opposite side. In the 20th century, it was converted into a single house.
The cottage is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with three windows, which include two-light 20th-century casements with glazing bars. At the right-hand end, there is a small 19th-century single-light casement on both floors. A 20th-century plank door is set in a small gabled porch at the right-hand end, while to the left, there is a late 19th or early 20th-century outshut with another 20th-century plank door. Inside, the two principal rooms each feature an open fireplace with a plain wooden lintel. The feet of the trusses do not appear on the first floor, suggesting they may not be original.
