Description

Berry Cottage is a cottage dating from around the mid-19th century, likely remodelled from a late 17th-century structure which may have originally been part of a larger house. The walls are plastered stone rubble, topped with a clay tile roof with a gable at one end. A limestone rubble stack with a tall rendered shaft is situated at the right-hand gable.

The original layout featured a single room heated by a stack at the right-hand gable, with a doorway at the front left, providing direct entry, and a staircase in the rear left corner. There appears to have been a small outbuilding at the back, and the cottage might have been part of a larger dwelling.

The east-facing front has an asymmetrical design with a single window. The first floor has a 20th-century 2-light casement window. The ground floor features a 20th-century canted bay window with casements and a scantle slate hipped roof. A 20th-century door with divided planks is set within a 20th-century gabled and glazed open-fronted porch on the left. The rear elevation was not inspected.

Inside, the cottage retains a chamfered axial beam with ogee stops. A large fireplace is on the right-hand side, concealing a lintel.
