Description
No. 5A is a house and shop located on the north side of High Street in Hatherleigh, dating from the mid to late 19th century. The building features rendered stone walls and a gable-ended slate roof with overhanging eaves supported by brackets. There are brick stacks at each end of the roof. The plan is double depth, with the left-hand section serving as a shop and the house to the right, which is one room wide, separated by a carriageway between them.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical five-window front. It includes late 19th century and 20th century four-pane sash windows, along with a 20th century one-light casement window on the first floor to the right. The original double shop front on the left side of the first floor features pilasters on either side and a modillion cornice that extends over the carriageway to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
