Description
15 and 16 Lower Meddon Street is a pair of houses, likely built in the mid to late 18th century, with some early to mid 19th-century additions. The front is solidly rendered and features a slate roof, with a rebuilt chimney on the right gable. The buildings are three storeys tall and have a three-window range.
The paired doorways are centrally located, recessed within a single wide opening that has a cornice hood supported by carved consoles. The doorways feature panelled reveals, with the bottom panels flush, and each has a four-panelled door topped with a three-paned fanlight. To the left of the doorways is a shoescraper.
The windows are flat-headed and have keystones. The left-hand windows all have eight-paned sashes, except for the upper third-storey sash, which has only four panes. The centre windows have six-paned sashes, except for the upper sash, which has three panes. The right-hand windows are fitted with small-paned late 20th-century fixed wooden sashes that include transom lights.
The ground storey features a moulded plinth and flanking panelled pilasters, while the upper storeys have corresponding reeded pilasters that rise from a plain string course. There is no entablature, just a plain board below the eaves. The interior has not been inspected.
