Description

These are a pair of houses dating from the mid-19th century, situated on Lower Meddon Street in Bideford. The fronts are of solid rendering, with a slate roof and brick chimneys on each gable end. The houses are two storeys high, with mirrored fronts forming a three-window range and a central pair of doorways. The doorways have simple surrounds with chamfered spine beams with run-out stops; a continuous cornice is supported by three carved consoles. The windows are sash windows with margin panes. A plain board runs along the eaves, and the building has a gutter featuring lion-head details. The interior was not inspected. Number 18 has 19th-century iron area railings with spear-head uprights and standards topped with lily finials; a matching gate is at the left-hand end.
