Description

No. 6 Buttgarden Street is a house with a shop, dating from the early 19th century, with a shop front likely added in the mid-19th century. The building features solid rendered front walls, and the upper part of the front facing Buttgarden Street shows traces of masonry markings. It has a hipped slate roof and rendered chimneys on the left side wall and rear wall, with the left chimney topped by three spiked pots. The structure is three storeys tall with a basement, presenting a two-window range to Buttgarden Street and three windows to Lower Meddon Street. There is a raised band at sill level on the second storey of both fronts. The ground storey shop front on Buttgarden Street includes a three-paned display window with upright glazing bars on the right, angled to the left towards half-glazed double doors with solid moulded lower panels. Above the shop front is a moulded cornice on consoles. The upper-storey windows on this front feature keystones and are six-paned sashes with horns. The return front has a doorway in the middle bay of the basement storey, with a late 20th-century wooden surround and a half-glazed door. The left-hand windows in the ground, second, and third storeys are blind, while the remaining windows are glazed with barred sashes. The four right-hand windows have eight-paned sashes, and the three middle windows have six-paned sashes. The left-hand basement window has an eight-paned lower sash and a four-paned upper sash, both with horns. The interior has not been inspected.
