GV II

Mirrored pair of houses. Late C18 or early C19. Rendered walls, the upper storeys at the front covered with painted C20 tiles (probably over timber-framing). Slated roofs: front span parallel to street, rear spans at right-angles. 2 rendered chimneys on each side wall. Single-fronted, double-depth, with stair behind front and back rooms. 3 storeys. 3 window front to the pair, with adjacent but independent doorways in centre. Each doorway has flanking pilasters and entablature; panelled reveals; 6-panelled doors, the bottom 2 panels flush; good brass knockers, with female head at No 78 and lion's head at No 80. Each house has triple-sashed window in ground storey; late C19 canted bays in second storey with single-light sash window between them; 3 third-storey windows altered in late C20. Rusticated pilaster-strips flanking the whole front. Bracketed eaves-cornice.
