Description

The Old Cream House, a mirrored pair of houses, dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The fronts are rendered, likely over timber framing, and are designed to imitate masonry. The left side wall is constructed of stone rubble. The roofs are slated with two spans running parallel to the street, and there are rendered chimneys on the gable ends of each span. The houses are probably single-fronted and double-depth, standing three storeys tall.

The combined front features three windows wide with paired doorways at the center of the ground storey. These doorways are flanked and divided by pilasters that support a frieze, and there may have been a hood originally. The doors are six-paned, with the bottom panels flush and the top two panels now glazed, and they have panelled reveals. No 72 has a brass knocker, while No 74 has an iron one. All windows have moulded architraves and sashes. At No 72, there is a triple sash with a two-paned center light on the ground storey, and six-paned sashes above, although the upper sashes on the third storey contain only three panes. All sashes at No 74 are two-paned. The combined front is flanked by rusticated pilaster-strips and topped with a bracketed cornice. The rear walls feature barred sashes and wood casements.
