Description
Ashburton House, specifically the right-hand section, is a house likely dating to the mid to late 18th century, with remodelling occurring in the early or mid 19th century. The exterior is characterised by solid rendered walls and a slated, half-hipped roof. Two rendered chimneys rise from the ridge. The building is three storeys high and originally featured four windows, with the left-hand window set apart. The left section, one window wide, has raised quoins, which appear to be a later addition. The ground floor features a doorway to the left with pilasters, an entablature, and panelled reveals. A late 20th-century bow window is situated to the right. Upper-storey windows are distinguished by moulded architraves and sash windows with margin panes. The right-hand section, three windows wide, has a central doorway flanked by pilaster strips and a cornice supported by consoles, leading to a six-panelled door with panelled reveals, the lower panels being flush. Canted bay windows with top cornices are located on either side of the doorway. A continuous balcony with a low patterned iron railing is positioned in front of the second-storey windows. Simple sashes are present in the ground and second floors, while the third floor has two-paned sashes. A bracketed eaves cornice runs across the entire building.
