Description

Poolsteps is a house dating from the late 17th or early 18th century. It is colourwashed with a 20th-century render over a cob and stone core, and has a gabled thatched roof with stone end stacks. The house has a three-unit plan and a symmetrical three-window front. A 20th-century door is set within a thatched porch. The windows are 20th-century two-light casements with flat rendered arches. A 19th-century one-bay extension with a 20th-century door and hipped roof is attached to the left side. A 17th-century two-light, chamfered wood-mullioned window is located at the rear. The interior features stone flag floors, stop-chamfered beams, and plain bressumners over two open fireplaces, with a cloam oven on the left. The roof is an A-frame construction with pegged collars, notched apexes, original 17th-century trenched purlins, and split oak rafters.
