Description

Fairoak is a farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the early 17th century and was extended to the left in the late 17th century. The exterior features colourwashed render over coursed slatestone rubble, a gabled corrugated asbestos roof, a rendered stack at the left end, and a brick ridge stack, which was originally the end stack of the early 17th-century house. The original layout was a two-unit plan, which was expanded to a four-unit plan during the late 17th century. The building is two storeys high and has a five-window range. The late 17th-century section to the left has a two-window range with flat arches over a central 20th-century door and 20th-century three-light casements. The early 17th-century section to the right has a three-window range with flat arches over a 20th-century door and 20th-century one- and three-light casements. There is also a late 17th-century outshut at the rear.

Inside, the left dwelling features a chamfered ogee-stopped beam and an open fireplace with a cloam oven to the left, along with another chamfered ogee-stopped beam to the right. The right dwelling has a chamfered ogee-stopped beam and an open fireplace on the ground floor, with a stone-flagged floor in the rear outshut. The roofs have not been inspected.
