Description
Orchard Farm's outbuilding, located approximately 10 meters south of the farmhouse, is a 17th-century shippon and stable that has been converted into a calf house. It features a late 17th or early 18th-century two-bay extension on the right side. The building is constructed from stone and cob, with mid-19th-century coursed slatestone rubble on the right-end gable wall. The roof is made of corrugated iron, gabled on the left and hipped on the right. The structure has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall.
On the exterior, there is a loft door above an old plank door with strap hinges and stone jambs on the left side. The extension to the right includes a loft door above a window opening and a timber lintel over a stable door, which also has strap hinges and stone jambs. Inside, the building features chamfered adzed beams, some split joists, and an A-frame roof with lap-jointed collars and a ridge purlin set in notched apexes.
