Description
This building is a former shippon, or outbuilding, located approximately 10 meters northwest of West Goldworthy Farmhouse. It dates back to the 17th century and is constructed of uncoursed slatestone rubble, with a rendered cob first floor and a gabled corrugated iron roof. The structure has two storeys and features a two-window range.
In the center, there is a 20th-century stable door with a timber lintel above it. To the right, there is a 20th-century window with a concrete lintel, and above it, a loft opening. An outshut on the left side has doveholes and features a timber lintel over a doorway, as well as a ventilation slit in the left end wall. This outshut has been altered and was originally the two-storey left bay of the 17th-century building.
Inside, the ground floor retains 17th-century joists of large scantling. The collars of four 17th-century A-frame trusses are attached to the principals using pegged open notch-lapped joints. The principals also have trenching for through-purlins, and the ridge purlin is set in crossed apexes.
