Description
Monkleigh Millhouse is an early 19th-century building, originally shown on the Ordnance Survey map as Mill Farm. It consists of a millhouse and mill, constructed from uncoursed slatestone rubble with a gabled slate roof. The building features a rendered stone ridge stack and a rendered stone stack at the left end, which includes a bread oven projection. It has a three-unit plan, is two storeys high, and has a three-window range. A late 19th-century panelled door, accompanied by a 20th-century lean-to porch, is located to the left of the centre. The windows are late 19th-century two and three-light casements, with segmental stone arches above. The central first-floor window has been widened in the 20th century.
Inside, there are early 19th-century plank doors with strap hinges and a boxed straight-flight staircase to the left. The first floor has not been inspected. There are also subsidiary features, including a stable to the left that has been converted into a 20th-century garage. To the right, there is a taller mill building made of slatestone rubble with a hipped corrugated iron roof. This structure is two storeys high with an attic, featuring timber lintels over the windows and an early 19th-century plank door with strap hinges. There is an opening for a pulley wheel to the right. The interior contains chamfered and plain beams, as well as a pulley wheel and shaft on the first floor and another pulley wheel on the second floor.
