Description
Frogwell Mill is a mill and millhouse that has been converted into a farmhouse and store. The mill dates from the 18th century, while the adjoining house was built in the early 19th century. The structure is made of rubblestone with a rendered left gable end. It features large granite quoins at the left corner of the mill and at the top storey of the right corner. The farmhouse has reused granite quoins on its right corner. Both buildings have slate roofs, with the mill having a half-hip on the left and a gable end on the right. The farmhouse is attached to the right gable end of the mill and also has a slate roof with gabled ends. A large projecting stone stack is located on the right gable end of the mill, while a brick stack is found on the right gable end of the house.
The mill has three storeys and a regular north-facing front. The ground floor features two 2-light casement windows, the right one with glazing bars, both of which are partly boarded. There is a central stable door, and the ground floor openings have timber lintels. On the first floor, there is a door in the centre and a gauze-covered square opening above, with a window opening to the right that is partly blocked.
The farmhouse has two storeys and a regular front with three windows. On the ground floor, there is a 2-light casement with glazing bars on the left and a gauze-covered dairy window on the right, both with brick segmented arches. A panelled door from the early 20th century is set back in the centre. Above, there are two late 19th-century 2-light casements with glazing bars and a central 2-pane window from the 20th century. A lean-to extension made of rubblestone with rounded corners is located on the right gable end, and a 20th-century porch has been added in front.
The mill wheel was originally positioned on the rear (south) elevation, but the machinery in the mill has been removed. The interior has not been inspected.
