Description

Hill View Cottage is a late 18th-century house situated on The Strand, Ringmore, near Shaldon. The front of the house is rendered with painted stucco, while the right return has roughcast. It has a hipped slate roof with a tall 20th-century brick stack on the right return. The house follows a double-depth plan.

The exterior is symmetrical, featuring a three-window front. There is a modillion eaves cornice to the front and wider eaves to the right return. The front door, originally a six-panel door under a hood on brackets, is now filled in to create a porch, and sits under a blind window. It is flanked by six/six-pane sash windows.

Inside, the three-bay roof retains original 18th-century rough collar-beam trusses. The room on the ground floor to the right has early 19th-century semi-elliptical recesses on either side of the 20th-century fireplace.
