Description
Doone Cottage is an 18th-century house located in Shaldon. It is built of rendered cob and features a hipped thatched roof with a 19th-century brick chimney on the left side. The house has a four-room layout and includes single-storey projections from the 19th and 20th centuries at both ends.
The exterior is two storeys high with a range of four windows. On the first floor, the windows have forward frames; the two on the left are 19th-century horned six-over-six pane sash windows, while the two on the right are made of plate glass. There is a large blank wall on the left side, near the chimney, suggesting there may have been an open fire there. The door, which is located left of centre, is from the 20th century and is accompanied by a gabled porch with a shingle roof. Flanking the door are 19th-century two-light three-pane casement windows. To the far left, there is a 20th-century single-storey brick extension, and to the far right, there is a single-storey lean-to block with a shingle roof and a door. The interior has not been inspected.
