Description

Strand House is an early 19th-century house located on The Strand in Ringmore, Devon. It is a double-depth plan with a rear left wing. The exterior is finished in incised stucco, with a slate roof and rendered stack to the right gable end, and a tall stack to the left of the rear wing. The house is three storeys high, with a symmetrical three-window frontage. It has a modillion eaves cornice with paterae to a triglyph frieze. The windows are sash windows with 3/6-pane glazing to the top floor and 6/6-pane glazing to the other floors. A Doric prostyle porch, originally featuring a 6-panel door with leaded glazing to the upper panels and a segmental arch overlight with radial glazing bars, now has its cornice removed. The left return has a circular window to the gable, along with a 3/6-pane sash window to the second floor and a 6/6-pane sash window to the first floor. The interior of the house has not been inspected. Associated with the house is a painted roughcast wall approximately 1 metre high, attached to the left corner and curving toward the front. Low gate piers with pyramidal caps define the forecourt.
