Rooklands (Cul De Sac)

Rooklands, now two separate dwellings at 1A and 2, was built in the early 18th century. The building is constructed with a render over cob and limestone rubble. Originally it comprised three bays, with No.1A representing the left-hand bay and No.2 the two right-hand bays.

The exterior of No.1A features painted render, with added decorative timber-framing dating to the late 19th century. It has an asbestos roof and a cream brick stack to the rear party wall. The property has a one-unit plan and two storeys. A central coloured leaded window is positioned in the gable end. A door with a gabled hood on brackets is to the right of centre, and there are two windows facing Jubilee Street. The interior has been altered.

No.2 has an incised stucco exterior over cob, and an asbestos roof hipped to the right, with two tall cream brick stacks to the rear wall. It has a two-unit plan with a 20th-century two-storey wing on the right. There are two storeys and a three-window front. The main entrance is a wide, 18th-century four-panel door under a trellissed porch with a segmental-arched hood. Modern windows occupy the front, while a late 19th-century sash window with coloured margin panes is visible between the rear stacks. The interior of No.2 retains a roof with a pegged collar truss, and former thatch remnants were found in the eaves. A rubblestone chimney breast with a 20th-century timber lintel is visible to the rear right, with a blocked fireplace above. A 18th-century panelled cupboard is set into the wall recess on the first floor to the right of the fireplace. The doors are of thin pine with three raised-and-fielded panels, although some have been repositioned.
