Description

Nos. 1 and 1A on Church Street is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a shop and a dwelling on the left, with another dwelling on the right. The building dates back to the 16th century but has undergone significant alterations in the 20th century. The facade on the left is made of rubble and cob, colorwashed, while the right side is whitewashed. It features a continuous slate roof and a large rubble stone lateral stack that is rendered, with an offset and a brick shaft. There is also a brick stack at the right gable end.

Originally, the building likely had a three-cell through passage plan, with the lower end now forming no. 1A as a single-cell cottage that has a small outshut at the rear. The through passage now leads into a right-angled single-storey extension that was entirely rebuilt in 1976. The upper end, which was formerly a corn store, has been extended and is now used as a shop. Inside, there are two pairs of raised crucks that suggest there was once an open hall, but no other original roof members remain.

The facade features two timber sash windows with two panes over two panes to the right of the lateral stack at the first floor, along with two 20th-century doors on each side of a single timber sash window with the same pane configuration. All window openings have stone sills. To the left of the stack, there is an early 20th-century light wood shop window with vertical matchboarding above. Additionally, there are two gabled half dormers with timber barred sashes over a timber sash window, each with ten panes per light. The building is positioned within a continuous street front.
