Description
This is a villa, dating from circa 1830-40, and now divided into two separate dwellings at 36 and 36A Church Street. The exterior is rendered rubble with quoin pilasters, although the upper portion on the right side is truncated. The roof has been re-tiled with concrete tiles, and features gable end brick stacks. Originally designed with a symmetrical facade, it is now divided into two properties. The upper storey of the central section has half-glazed French windows, with eight panes in each leaf, set above a panelled base. There are two two-light casements to each side, each with three large panes and marginal glazing bars. A two-storey timber verandah and balcony runs along the front, featuring two tiers of eight fluted timber colonnettes, basket-arched timber work, and an iron lattice pattern. This structure has been divided, with four bays to the dwelling on the left and three bays to the right. The balcony railings are made of diamond lattice ironwork. The verandah roof is covered in zinc and takes the form of a tent. The ground floor has two and a half glazed doors with French windows to the left, and an inserted 20th-century bow window to the right. The dwelling on the left retains its original iron spear-headed railings and gate.
