Description

Bank Cottage is a 17th-century cottage, with a date of 1633 noted inside, that has been significantly restored in the 20th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and cob, topped with a thatched roof featuring gabled and half-hipped ends, as well as eyebrow eaves. The cottage is one storey high with an attic and has a five-window range, featuring 20th-century casements with glazing bars. The central doorway is sheltered by a thatched hood, and there is a projection to the left of the doorway that likely originally contained a staircase, along with a wider projection to the right. The building has stone rubble ridge and end chimney stacks. Inside, the cottage has been much altered with renewed floors and roof, but it still retains a heavy ovolo moulded ceiling beam and a fireplace bressummer in the west end. A moulded plaster inscription reading "EMM1633" has been reset in the former cross passage.
