Description
Slapes is a cottage dating from the 16th to 17th century, which was restored in the late 20th century. It features roughcast, likely over cob, with a raking buttress at the southeast corner and a thatched roof. The cottage has been fitted with rebuilt stacks at the gable ends. Its layout consists of three cells and a cross passage, which may have been altered over time. The building is one and a half storeys high and has eyebrow dormers with three-light wooden pointed arched mullions on the left, dating from the mid-19th century, while other windows include two and three-light 20th-century metal casements. To the left of the entrance is a wooden two-light casement, and there is a 20th-century ribbed door with a thatched porch. The interior has only been partially observed, revealing a chamfered lintel above the fireplace in the left gable end and chamfered beads with enriched stops.
