Description

Yarde Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the mid to late 19th century. It features roughcast over rubble, a string course and plinth, and a steeply pitched plain clay tile roof with coped verges and kneelers. There are brick stacks at the gable ends and to the left of the cross passage. The building has a three-cell plan with a cross passage and a full-height porch, along with an extension at the rear.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a symmetrical facade with two bays on the outer sides and one bay in the center. The full-height gabled porch has coped verges and kneelers, and the windows are all late 19th-century casements. The first floor features a four-light window with a three-light window in the porch, while the ground floor has three three-light windows to the left of the porch and a four-light window to the right, which has C20 French windows inserted beyond. The porch has an elliptical-headed opening and flat string decoration resembling half-timbering above.

Inside, the left room of the cross passage has a six-panel compartment ceiling decorated with plasterwork of winged cherubs and leaves. There is an 18th-century dog-leg stair with turned balusters and a moulded handrail, along with another framed door at the rear of the cross passage. The left return features an inserted C20 glazed door and a lean-to projection with a clay tiled roof and a three-light casement, which may serve as a stair or curing chamber.
