Description
Staplegrove Lodge is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick, with the first-floor facade rendered to resemble ashlar, and the remainder of the house rendered. The roof is covered in asbestos slate, featuring coped verges and brick stacks at the gable ends, with decorative ridge tiles. The building has a roughly L-shaped plan and two storeys, originally with three bays. It features 15-pane sash windows on the first floor and 24-pane sash windows on the ground floor, rising directly from the floor level. A single-storey, hipped, asbestos slate-roofed verandah, supported by thin wooden piers, extends across the front, with three bays and half-bay and half-bay returns on the outer bays. The entrance is located on the right return elevation, and is distinguished by an ashlar Bath stone doorcase with an open pediment and clustered columns adorned with fleurons in the frieze. Above the door is a depressed arch fanlight with Gothick tracery, and the entrance is fitted with an 8-pane half-glazed door.
