Description

The John Haddon chest tomb, located in the churchyard about seven metres south of the porch of the Church of St John the Evangelist, is a chest tomb dating from the mid-18th century, with an early 19th-century addition. It is made of conglomerate stone and features a ledger top with a cyma recta moulded cornice and a moulded plinth. The tomb has inscriptions on all faces and is flanked by columns that are divided into three raised and fielded panels. The earliest legible inscription on the north face commemorates John Haddon, who died in 1786, while the most recent inscription on the south face is for James Turner, who died in 1840.
