Description
Rookery Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century that has been altered. It features roughcast rubble construction with raised coped verges on kneelers and a pantile roof. Originally designed as a two-unit cross passage, the building is two storeys high and has three windows. The central entrance consists of a three-plank, nailed door with a stopped ovolo moulded surround and a similar lintel above, all set within a gabled 19th-century porch. The ground floor has two- and three-light 19th-century casements, while the upper floor has two-light 20th-century casements. Large square gable stacks are present, and the east gable has a two-light 17th-century casement at attic level. At the rear, there is a full-length catslide extension with 20th-century dormers in the attic.
Inside, the ground floor features deep chamfered beams, with those in the former wide cross passage having rounded stepped stops. The east room includes an inglenook with a stopped, chamfered bressummer and a small spice cupboard. A winder stair alongside rises through two storeys, while a winder at the east gable only rises one storey. The west room retains a formerly external 17th-century ovolo moulded three-light casement window.
