Description
Francis Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the mid 19th century and early 20th century. The exterior is roughcast over rubble, featuring a plain tiled roof on the main block, which is characterized by pilaster quoins and brick stacks at the gable ends. To the left is a lower service wing that has its own roof, covered with double Roman tiles and decorative ridge tiles, and features overhanging eaves supported by brackets. The building has a three-cell layout with a cross passage that has been modified. It stands two storeys high and has a façade with one bay on the left and three bays on the right. The windows are three-light mullioned and transomed leaded casements, although the transoms have been removed from the first floor left, ground floor right, and second left. The windows have flat surrounds. There is a gabled tiled porch from the 19th century supported by decorative wooden brackets at the second bay on the right, and an end bay on the left features a monopitch tiled porch with a ribbed plank door. The interior is reputed to have been altered in the early 20th century.
