Description
This is an early 19th-century cottage, possibly with earlier origins. It is constructed of red sandstone rubble with an asbestos slate roof and brick stacks to the gable ends. The cottage has a 2-cell plan with a cross passage, and a rear wing. The two-storey, two-bay front features 12-pane sash windows and a glazed door with a decorative wooden trelliswork porch covered by a gabled slate roof. A two-bay return to the right has an early 19th-century two-light leaded casement window with quadrant stays. A lower, separately roofed kitchen block is present, with a 20th-century window and a tall stone stack on its gable end. Wrought iron, flat-headed railings are set in a low wall and return to the right side of the cottage, with a central gate in a matching style, incorporating an arched reinforcement and aligned with the cottage entrance. The interior was not inspected.
