Description
Woodburns Cottage is a farmhouse that has been converted into two cottages. It dates back to the 17th century and was enlarged in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed from red sandstone random rubble and features a double Roman tiled roof. The roof is half hipped to the right, with a catslide roof at the end bay on that side. The central three bays have a shallow pitched roof with a stone stack on the left and a large external stepped stone stack on the facade to the right of the entrance.
The layout consists of three cells and a cross passage, with an additional room added to the left of the kitchen and a garage addition on the right. The building is two storeys high and has a façade with one bay on the left and three bays on the right. On the left, there is a 17th-century two-light ovolo moulded mullion window, alongside a similar four-light window and a two-light early 19th-century leaded iron casement window to the left of the stack. To the right, there is another two-light window, and on the ground floor, an early 19th-century leaded two-light iron casement window.
To the left of the moulded four-centred arch doorframe, there are remains of a five-light mullion window that was altered in the 20th century. The building has slate pentices supported by wrought iron brackets, and to the right of the stack, there is a 20th-century three-light window with garage doors beyond.
The interior has not been viewed but is reported to contain three pairs of jointed crucks, a room in the end bay on the left with chamfered beams, and a door frame with peak heads and run-out stops.
